5 Eco-Friendly Shopping Tips

There are so many different variables that go into a consumers purchase. Not only in the mind and preference of the consumer, but also in any given supply chain of any given brand. Being a consumer is a pretty hefty duty, and there are ways we can responsibly and sustainably go about our purchasing and consumption habits!

1. Look for Reusable Products and Reduce Disposables

Instead of buying disposable products such as razors, batteries, coffee filters, food storage items, plastic silverware, and paper plates, look for reusable and refillable alternatives. Try buying a reusable water bottle instead of buy the 24 packs of bottled water. Not only will this help out the environment but it will help out your wallet too!

By committing to buying local products such as possibly going to your local farmers market instead of a big grocery store, you are directly helping your local economy and  at the same time contributing to reducing greenhouse gases! Usually that local farmers market doesn’t have to have its products drove or flown in!

3. Look for Less Packaging

If possible avoiding items that have a lot of packaging will in turn help out our environment immensely. Any chance we as consumers have to reduce, reuse, and recycle, we should be taking full advantage of! By purchasing less individually packaged items, that is one step in the right direction.

4. Buying Digital Tickets

Today it is so easy to take the “e-ticket” route. By choosing the digital ticket option for things like going to the movies, attending a sporting event, and even flying on a particular airline, you are reducing the use of paper! Nice job!

5. Purchasing Seasonal Produce

Deciding to buy produce that is in season rather than out of season, you are directly helping the planet, your health, and your bank account. Produce that is considered in season is cheaper than when it is out of season. This is due to the fact that when it is out of season, it takes more effort to produce. When a particular fruit or vegetable is in season it is able to grow naturally with a lot less chemicals and unnatural processing. Not to mention it will taste a whole lot better as well!
